Free Museums in London.

 London has some of the most magnificent free museums. There is something for all age groups and  adults will find many  attractions and performances to keep them occupied. 

The fantastic thing is .... most of these museums are free, apart from special performances and attractions. Free is good! 

You will find free museums throughout London. No matter which part of London you live in, I can assure you that you will find a free museum near  you.

The  Science Museum, Museum of Natural History and the Victoria and Albert Museum are all clustered together in Kensington, These museums are all free of charge to enter, but payment is required for certain attractions and performances. Have a look at the list I have compiled for you below.  Not all of these museums are free but the majority are. 



The Natural History Museum in London is a museum exhibiting a vast range of specimens from various segments of natural history.


Science Museum - Free Entry The Science Museum London museum and library of science. Exhibitions cover all areas of science and technology. Includes online exhibits and a learning area.


Bank of England Museum - Free Entry The Bank of England Museum tells the story of the Bank of England from its foundation in 1694 to its role today as the United Kingdom's central bank.


Royal Airforce Museum NW9 - Free Entry Lovely day out. Lots of aircraft to see. Children also catered for.

Imperial War Museum -Imperial War Museums (IWM) is a British national museum organisation with branches at five locations in England


The Anaesthesia Museum  W1B - This is a small but just perfect museum for those interested in anaesthesia. I would recommend it for teenagers and adults who have an interest. You have to book in advance. Not recommend for young children .

The Royal Academy of Music Museum NW1 - This is a small museum for those with a keen interest in music.

The William Morris Gallery  Museum E17 - Free Entry -This is a beautiful house on fantastic ground. There is something for everyone. Museum is dedicated to the memory of William Morris - craftsman, designer and socialist.

The British Dental Museum W1G - History of dental surgery.  Ring before you set off. Restricted opening times.

Museum of London Docklands E14 - The history of the Roman settlement to the Docklands regeneration.  Caters well for children. Plenty to see and do.

V&A Museum of  Childhood - Free Entry- Good day out. Children and adults well catered for.

The Geffrye Museum of Homes E2 - Free Entry- Museum of homes. Will not take all day to get around.

The British Postal Museum WC1X - The Essex branch hold larger exhibits - such as post boxes and vans.


Kenwood House  NW3 Museum  -  Great day out. Picnics, walks, cafes. The house has paintings and some pieces of furniture.

The Ragged School Museum  - The Ragged School Museum is housed in a group of three canal side buildings which once formed the largest “ragged” or free school in London. At the heart of the Ragged School Museum is our unique classroom, where each year some 16,000 children come to experience a glimpse of Victorian life.

Goldsmith Hall Museum -  An 1835 (William IV) Renaissance building rebuilt by Philip Hardwick, containing portraits. 

Flowers East  Contemporary Art Gallery situated in London's East End. Features painting, sculpture and limited edition prints by 49 represented and associated artists.
